Jewellery making workshop

27nd November 2018, Felicitation Ceremony of Dr. Nayanmoni Saikia,
Registrar of Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya.

27 November 2018: One day workshop was conducted on the thread jewellery making, under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of Mahatma Gandhi University, Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya on 27th November 2018. The programme was initiated by the felicitation ceremony of Dr. Nayanmoni Saikia, Registrar, Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya, and the trainer Miss Kalpana Baruah. Miss Priti Rekha Devi felicitated Dr. Nayanmoni Saikia and Miss Subungshri Basumatary felicitated Miss Kalpana Baruah. The ceremony was followed by lighting of the lamp, welcome address by Dr. Nayanmoni Saikia, speech of Miss Mamata Pandit, institutional Nodal officer of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan on the programme.

Then the workshop started and continued for the whole day. The total number of participants of the workshop was 35, among them 8 from Nongkhylla Khasi village, 7 from Borbhouin village, 8 from Tamuli Kuchi village, 7 from Jorabat village and 5 from Jorbil village of Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya. At first the participants were divided in seven groups with five members in each group and then the raw materials were distributed among them and then they were asked to prepare jewellery by following the trainer Miss Kalpana Baruah. The participants were instructed by the Nodal officer and the trainer to prepare the jewellery and they were very excited to prepare that and they prepared seven sets of earring and after that they participated in question and answer round with Nodal officer and the trainer. Their main questions were "where to get the raw materials", "what is the price of the raw materials in the market", "what will be the price of the finished products" etc. The trainer and the Nodal officer answered to their questioned boldly. They requested to organize one more workshop on preparation of decorative items. At last but not the least, the programme was concluded by vote of thanks by Miss Ambrosia Tyngkra (Faculty of Education)
