National Seminar on NEP 2020 with reference to Indian Knowledge system

Mahatma Gandhi University organised a one day National Seminar on NEP 2020 with reference to Indian Knowledge System in Northeast India” on 29 April, 2023 with its vital lectures. The seminar focused on Indian Knowledge system with special reference to Northeast Region being a store house of traditional knowledge system. So the seminar tried to highlight the knowledge system of NE Region prevailing amongst the different ethnic communities.

The university hence takes the privilege to acknowledge the perpetual support and moral input bestowed by the eminent personalities and  is thankful to their impeccable directions as they have enlightened our temple of education and provided due anchorage with their respective auras.

The program was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp by the Resource persons- Dr. Arup Bordoloi, Director Sangeet Natak Academy, NER; Sri Manas Kumar Deka, Input Editor ND TV; Mr. Matipur Rahman, CEO, Scordemy – in presence of Dr. Sagar O Manjhre, Vice-Chancellor of MGU, Dr. Sarika Dixit, Registrar and all the staff members of Mahatma Gandhi University. The guest of honour were then felicitated.

The key note address was given by Dr. Dinesh Baishya, Dean Academics, MGU. He enlightened the paper presenters and participants with his innumerable information and experiences in the field of knowledge system of India with special reference to Northeast region. He talked about the rich heritage of ancient eternal knowledge of the Indian civilization which is to be the guiding light for the NEP 2020 policy. The policy is rooted in Indian community and emphasizes on learning in the mother tongue. There lie the tremendous opportunities for strengthening and promoting the indigenous knowledge systems. An important aim of the NEP-2020 is to utilize local traditions to inform the education
system. This has the potential to allow the indigenous knowledge system to become part of
the mainstream narrative. This can be achieved through the route of experiential learning.

The resource persons Dr. Arup Bordoloi, Director Sangeet Natak Academy, NER; Sri Manas Kumar Deka, Input Editor ND TV; Mr. Matipur Rahman, CEO, Scordemy too deliberated and shared very valuable speech on the topic and the significance of NE region knowledge system in incorporating it into NEP 2020 policy for enhancement of experiential knowledge in attaining its current form based on practical experiences with its surrounding through trial and error.

This knowledge is cumulative, growing through the accretion of generations of experiences which translates to wisdom. They tried to encourage all and to have a broader outlook towards development of Knowledge System through NEP 2020 policies. By showing the gateway of opportunities to future generation’s education level and career, they encouraged all to utilize their knowledge and skills to build a better tomorrow. Dr. Sagar O Manjhre, Vice-Chancellor of MGU also spoke on the occasion about the achievements of the University and future growth of the same for the benefit of the students of the North-Eastern region.

With the presentations being held in different technical sessions, the day was made more vibrant with various topics being presented by the paper presenters. There were numbers of paper presenters and participants attended the seminar.

It has been an exciting and energetic day with lots of knowledgeable topics being highlighted and discussed elaborately. Without the cooperation of every staff members of MGU, it wouldn’t have been possible to organize this National Seminar in such a splendid way. The whole day-long seminar ended successfully with vote of thanks by Dr. Y. Krishna Reddy, Principal of Allied Health Sciences MGU, Meghalaya. Finally, the day was concluded with a valedictory session.
