Department of Humanities & Social Science Organises Extension Lecture

The Department of Humanities & Social Science, Mahatma Gandhi University organised an extension lecture on the topic "Subaltern literature with particular reference to transgender" on Tuesday, 22nd February, 2022. The session had started with the introductory speech by the host, Miss Subasana Phuoan. Dr. Gitali Saikia, the associate Professor of the department of English, HCDG college, Sivasagar was invited as the speaker to share her deep knowledge on the aforementioned topic. The vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, Dr. M.K. Kulshrestha accorded her a warm welcome. His welcome speech was followed by the lamp lighting ceremony where Dr. Saikia was assisted by Dr. Yeduru Krishna Reddy, the Principal of Mahatma Gandhi University. In her speech Dr. Saikia shed light on the plight and status of the transgender community with special reference to her translation of a transwoman's autobiography 'I am Vidya'. She concluded her speech with a positive note and was applauded by the attendees. Following this, the Dean of Academics, MGU, Dr. Dinesh Baishya also shared his experience of LGBT community with the students. All the students and faculty members thoroughly enjoyed the productive session and asked questions to the expert on the topic. The success even came to an end with the vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Gayatri Sinha.
