Report of the national seminar on Economic and Cultural Issues of North-East India

27th November 2021 by Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya: A one day seminar was organized by Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya in collaboration with State Bank of India Officers Association and Agriculture and Rural Tourism. The theme of the seminar was "Economic and Cultural Issues of North-East India ". The seminar was inaugurated with a welcome speech and a lamp lighting ceremony. The Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr. M.K Kulshrestha gave the keynote address. The seminar was graced by the presence of the chief guest Mrs. Trinity Saioo, the Padma Shri Award winner of 2020. She shared her experience on the "Lacadong" variety of turmeric cultivation in the Mulieh village of West Khasi Jayantiya region, Meghalaya. A valuable speech on the economic development of the North-East India was delivered by the Dean(Academics) of MGU Dr. Dinesh Baishya. His speech was followed by another warming speech by the special guest of the seminar Mr. Manoj Nath, the president of Guwahati Press Club, Assam. The Chairperson Mr. Samir Bordoloi gave a deep insight on the economic possibility of North-East India. He put emphasis on a unique farming which he described as "compassionate farming". He urged the people of NE especially the youth to come forward and grab the advantages of natural repertoire present in the region. Another Chairperson Mr. Udit Bhanu Bordoloi delivered an energetic speech on tourism industry of India especially the Nort-East India. Afterwards, two simultaneous sessions on the aforementioned topic were held which was followed by an interactive question-answer session. The successful programme ended with the Vote of Thanks by The Registrar of MGU Dr. Soumen Saha. The seminar was very informative and provided the participants with enormous knowledge on various aspects of Economic and Cultural issues of North East India. The students loved the event as a whole.
