National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit

The National Service Scheme Unit has been constituted in the Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya (MGU). The Additional Director of Higher and Technical Education, Meghalaya has funded for implementation of both Regular Activities and Special Camping Programme. The University appointed Ms. Bhaswati Sarmah as Programme Coordinator and Ms. Jahnavi Phukan and Rajdeep Borgohain as Programme Officers for the unit. The Unit organised one orientation program for the newly registered NSS Volunteers on 12th May, 2018 followed by a Plantation Program by the NSS Volunteers and faculty members of the university.

The Regional Director of NSS, Guwahati, Mr. Hemant Kumar Sharma chaired the program as the Chief Guest. In the Program ,200 bamboo saplings and 50 Assam lemon saplings were planted in the campus of MGU. Other activities organised by the Unit include distribution of essential medicines among women on the occasion of 'International Women's Day' on 8th March at Mother's Old Age Home, and Community Awareness Programme on Social Safety on 11th April in Collaboration with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 01 BN.


In the coming days, the NSS Unit is planning to organise one Special Camping Programme and a set of Regular Activities which will include cleanliness activities, various awareness programmes, sanitation drive, community service, sustainable development etc.
