Freshmen Social in any college is an event which every student eagerly awaits from the time of their admissions. The 22nd Of November 2018 was marked as a memorable day in the life of every fresher of 2018 batch of Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya. It was a day filled with excitement, joy, enthusiasm, laughter and lots of fun.
The program started at 10.30 am at the University campus with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest Fr. Anil Joseph (principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Byrnihat and a motivational speaker), Registrar of MGU Dr. Nayanmoni Saikia and HODs of English and Legal studies. The host welcomed the Chief Guest and the student co-ordinator Iris felicitated our Chief Guest and Registrar with the traditional Gamusa of Assam and a bouquet.
The program kick started with the welcome address by the Registrar which is followed by a motivational speech by the Chief Guest. The contestants for Mr and Miss Fresher were then introduced, theu walked down the ramp, introduced themselves which is then followed up by a question answer round. We are privileged to announce our special guest, RJ Mandira of Red FM as a judge for our Freshmen contest. Six students were shortlisted to the final round, namely, first runner up Shanjano T. Yanthan and Nilivi Yeptho, Second Runner up Mr. Elvestar Nongrum and Miss Shwngnari Zamatia, and another round of questionnaire took place which gave us the most awaited Mr and Miss Fresher 2018, Miss Chipitoli Swu and Mr. Lemtsumong Y. Both were awarded by the former 2017 Mr and Miss Fresher.
The senior students of the previous batches welcomed the freshers with their dancing moves and melodious tunes. The event winded up with the DJ session. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by the host of the event, thanking the honourable Chief Guest Fr. Anil Joseph for his kind motivation and encouraging words, Dr. Nayanmoni Saikia, Registrar, for supervising the whole event and his guidance, Miss Pratyakshi Goswami, Cultural Head and Media Manager, for her continuous effort throughout the planning and evaluation of the entire program, Mr. Muktar Rahman Saikia, Faculty of History Department, for coordinating with the whole team of students and organizing committee, the student’s organizing committee, Iris Lichano, Opanglangba, Franky and many other for putting up their blood and sweat in carrying the program forward and at last but not the least the entire teaching and non-teaching staff for their support and the freshers for being with us throughout the event.
